Julian Demowells is a fictional British painter whose work explores rooms, familiar objects and the changing colour of evening. His imagined practice moves between observation and memory, using domestic subjects as a starting point for bold relationships of blue, terracotta, plum and pale green.
Painting as a place to pause
In this demo portfolio, a chair can carry the weight of a room and a bowl can become a field of colour. The spaces are intentionally simplified, with visible brushwork and small shifts in perspective that keep the paintings open to interpretation. Three collections — Rooms for Colour, Table Studies and Night Windows — trace a movement from daylight into quieter interiors.
